Kelley Donovan & Dancers will present Entwined, an evening-length work exploring connection and interdependency. Kelley Donovan & Dancers collaboratively create dance that investigates the mysterious world of internal transformation and expresses the intimate self through movement, ranging from soft fluidity to athletic physicality. Blended gestures intermingle to explore a definition of strength that includes vulnerability. The electronic sound score created for Entwined contrasts the expressive in the movement, emphasizing vulnerability without narrative.
As the dancers entwine with, about, around one another the work explores our mutual interdependence and a material coexistence where everyone’s contribution is essential. The work echos the company’s collaborative process where each dancers individual contribution is valued. The cause and effect of small changes of consciousness, energy, visualizations in our interactions with others has a ripple effect which is abstractly expressed though movement.
A sequential use of the torso with abrupt energy changes and weight shifts explores the initiation of movement from the core and conveys an unfolding motion that is expressive of transformation. Spatial designs are explored as the complexity of the dance unfolds, material appears and reappears, is altered and transformed as the context changes and evolves.

Kelley Donovan & Dancers create dance that investigates the internal world of transformation and expresses the intimate self through movement, ranging from soft fluidity to athletic physicality. With a sequential use of the torso with abrupt energy changes and weight shifts, dancers physically explore the theme of impermanence by never letting their weight settle for two long in one shape and move with an restless urgency toward the next physical event. A non-linear series of images and serpentine movement vocabulary gather strength in its accumulation of details, gestures and exchanges of energy.
Exploring the gray area between the extremes of purely classical modern dance and theatrical narrative, Donovan creates movement rich with imagery, experienced viscerally and expressive of transformation.
