Kelley Donovan & Dancers will present “What is Stable Shifts, What is Solid Slips”, a new work exploring, decay, memory and impermanence.
Donovan will also premiere a new solo “Vigilant” to music by Sheila Chandra.
Guest Choreographers include company members Lucy Considine and Angie Hartley. Hartley will show her latest work “Oh Beautiful” an exploration of the romanticism of nationalism and the inaccessibility of the American Dream for her generation.
Kelley Donovan and Dancers, create contemporary dance-based performances that The New York Times says have a “noticeably personal style…gorgeously fluid strongly rooted movement… “
Read our blog before attending the show and see video excerpts from rehearsal and how we created this dance.
I decided since I have to wait for the video for a while to post a “choreographers eye view” this was filmed backstage, and this is what I get to see from the side view watching the piece. Paul Marr’s lighting is absolutely beautiful here!
This weekend I went down to NYC to perform again in the Fresh Fruit Festival, which is always a fun experience. We did a multimedia showcase at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in the East Village, I’ve never performed there before. I will show Vilgilant the piece in this clip (improvised, so it will be different) on Saturday at our show! Keep in mind it is a dark cafe/nightclub.
Lastly I’ve started a new class for teens at Paula Terenzi’s Dance Complex in Malden, right where I used to live years ago. A great group, really quick to learn the material, we did all this in a 45 minute class! here is a clip of their trios!
